Principal's Message

Stunning Results

Brooke Joyner had her end of year Jamboree, where she camped for 2 nights at Morisset.  The competition was from 6 other Pony Clubs, so about 186 riders.  Brooke and Jimmy (her trusty pony) won 6 ribbons in hacking, and 5 first’s in

the sporting events. At the end of the day at Presentation, Brooke was named the Junior Champion rider (a beautiful ribbon) and also the highest point scorer (a beautiful trophy).I have it on good authority that Mum cried as she was SO proud of Brooke.  I am feeling a bit the same.  GO BROOKE JOYNER!!!!

Coming Events

Mr Green and I will be attending training at Newcastle on Tuesday afternoon on the changes to Child Protection, “The Keep Them Safe Strategy”.  We will be meeting up with Mr Boulus there so will let you know how he is going. Mrs Coleman is in charge in my absence.

School Council

The meeting will be held on Wednesday 18th November at 7 pm.  We will meet in the staff room. Anyone with business that they would like discussed should contact Kate Simpson.

Goss At The Silver Seats

From time to time people let me know that others are unhappy about bits and pieces. I love the fact that you trust me enough to give me the opportunity to sort things out or to help out when I can.  You are making our school community stronger because of that trust.  If people are talking about issues and the fact that “nothing” has been “done” there

are a couple of questions that are always good

to ask:

  • What did the teacher say about it?
  • When you followed up with Mrs Burch, what did she say and do?

If there answer to both these questions is “nothing”, THEN there is a problem and they may deserve your sympathy!!

I had a lovely taste of members of our school community speaking up for our school last week.  It reinforced for me what I already know – Tuggerawong is special because of our community who speak positively about our achievements and constructively to the right person about our areas for improvement.  It gives me a warm glow!!

Constructive feedback

We are up to 11 surveys returned! I will be using the information on these returns next week to write up the Annual School Report.  If you haven’t already sent in your form could you please consider filling in the 1 to 10 scale across the top and send it back in.  Without more of those scales sent back I won’t be able to work my magic with the numbers.  If you are happy and you know it (someone should write a song called that!) – send in the scale.  Come on everyone, you are making it hard!

School Captains

Letters have gone out to the parents of students who are nominated to run for the positions.  As soon as Captains and Prefects are elected there is a general expectation that they will suddenly become the perfect student.  It is a very demanding position that has a very high profile in the school. Students need the ongoing support of their families to manage some of those expectations.  Full school uniform ALL the time is a must, outstanding behaviour ALL the time is an expectation and as well as all that, they have to keep on growing up, achieve well at school, play sport, do all the home stuff and get ready for High School.  A busy year.  So parents, if you think your child is able to undertake this responsibility, sign the form and send it back in.  Fortunately we have a wide range of very suitable candidates. I am looking forward to their campaigns.

P&C Meeting

We had another very successful meeting last week.  We had a good roll up in attendance. Lovely  to see.  The meeting was over by 8.30 pm but that short period of time allowed a good sharing of information and open discussion.  We finalised the organization for the Carols Night and it was all done with a good heart. Thanks.

Top Gate

The gate near Mrs Hurley’s room is open.  Please be careful coming in and going out.  It is very steep.

Placement Requests 2010

If you have a particular request for your child’s class placement please send in the form at the end of the newsletter. Remember if I can support the request I will, if I cannot help out then I will talk to you about it.

Mufti for Hampers

Remember that the 25th November is mufti for the Christmas Hampers.  Children come in mufti clothes and bring a non perishable food item as a donation. Please check the use by dates.

Have a good week. Ring me if I can help out.

AROUND THE CLASSROOMS

KG

Welcome to week 5, can you believe we are now more than half way through the term?

As I have been carrying out assessments, I have been so proud of all the student’s achievements. It has been amazing to see their growth. Kindergarten need to be congratulated on their enthusiasm to learn and do their best. Well done!!! And a big thank you to all the parents as well, it’s your commitment to their learning that helps them to achieve as well.

In class we are still learning about nursery rhymes and fairytales, which is incorporated into the English program.  In Mathematics we are doing revision of all the concepts taught in kindergarten as well as playing a lot of mathematical games to help reinforce these concepts.

I have been checking the weekly reports on Mathletics and it is great to see all the wonderful results the students are achieving, some students have even received awards. Keep up the great work.

Don’t forget the class party to kids HQ is fast arriving. Money will need to be paid prior to Friday, week 8. If you have any problems or concerns please do not hesitate to come and see me, and I will try and help where possible.

For the Christmas concert this year KG are singing to, Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer. Students will need to wear Christmas colour clothes (red, white, green) and if possible reindeer antlers or, a Santa’s hat and/or a red nose. If anyone has a small Santa’s costume that one of the students could wear, could you please let me know. Thank you! I will give you more information on this event as it arises but I just thought I would give you a heads up.

Remember my door is always open and if you have any questions or concerns, please come and see me.   Have an awesome week!!!    Mrs Gabriel

K/1G

Week 5 already and motoring along!

Many students will be close to their Diamond Licence, well done to all of these students. Remember to return the licence cards early in the week. Please also remember to continue to read with your child and fill in the home Reading card.

I will be leaving early tomorrow to attend a ‘keeping safe’ professional learning experience.

Remember the class will have a variation to routine over the next few Fridays. Mrs Gabriel and I will be running the Headstart program and presenting to next year’s Kindergarten parents. The class will have a casual teacher who will take them for their regular sport session and then complete some Christmas craft.

Our school Carols Night will be on Wednesday , 9 December at school from 5.00pm. The classes have all chosen a Christmas song and will continue to practise. I will send home a little more info on this but students will only be required to wear a red or green shirt. It would, however be really helpful if you have some reindeer ears that we could use, please send them in to school.

Our school Presentation Day will be on Thursday, 10  December, it will come around really quickly. It is very difficult choosing recipients of our class awards.

Also, a reminder that our class party is on the Friday, 11 December - Week 8.  Notes have been sent out for this. If you have not received one or it has been misplaced please pop in and get one. As is the case every year, students cannot attend if they have not received their Silver Licence.

Remember that the reading group days are slightly different; they will now be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 10.00am

I wish you all a great week and remember, if you have any queries or questions, please just come and see me.  Mr Green

How fast is this Term flying?

The children have been working on a lot of assessments during the last few weeks and need to be congratulated on their hard work. It’s wonderful to see how far the children have progressed.  We were all very lucky last week as we all got to try a chocolate that Max brought back all the way from America for us.YUM! Thank you Max.

Thank you to those parents who have completed the school planning survey. It is important at this stage of the year that children remember to return their license card each Monday.

If your child is away for any reason, please send in a short note explaining their absence. If your child brings home a late library book reminder notice at the end of the week and they have already returned their books, please just let us know.

The children will be performing a Christmas carol once again on our Carols Night. They will need to come to the concert dressed in Christmassy clothes of your choosing. The Carols night is on the 9 December- a Wednesday night.

If you have any old black trouser stockings (not panty hose) that are ready to be thrown out it would be great if you could send these in with your child.

We are looking forward to the ‘Santa’ model that the Year 2 children are working on.

We hope that this is underway with lots of ingenious ideas!

If you have any small buttons that would be suitable for ‘eyes” they would also be great to send in.

Also, just a reminder about the children’s Fun Day towards the end of the term. Thank you to those parents who have already sent in money for this.

Hi everyone,

Well the term is passing us by quickly. This week we have our transport projects due. The students can bring those in at any time during the week. Don’t forget to bring in your log book with your project. In Week 6 we will start our speeches on our projects. These are just a short speech we you describe your project and how you made it. I am looking forward to all the great creations.

Big congratulations to all the kids for their behaviour at swim scheme. You were fantastic and your swimming has improved so much. Awards for swim scheme will be handed out on Friday at assembly.

Don’t forget to bring in money and notes for our end of year excursion to Kids HQ. That will be in week eight on the Friday.

Have a great week. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to see me in the classroom of an afternoon. Thanks   Miss Hatter

2/3KG

Term 4, Week 5 - Firstly I would like to congratulate all Year 2 and 3 students on their excellent behaviour at the Toukley Pool during Swimming School. Fantastic improvements were achieved   by all students in technique and water safety. Certificates of achievement will be presented at future assemblies.

Christmas projects” Transport for Santa “are beginning to arrive and are very impressive .The children will present a speech on how they work in Talking and Listening. We have completed most end of year assessments in preparation for reports.

Don’t forget our Scripture Concert – Tuesday, 24 November  and Carols Night - Wednesday 9 December so please practise actions and words to our song.

Don’t forget Infant Fun day at HQ is on Friday, 11 December . Students must have a silver license to attend. Fortunately most of the students in 2/3KG have their gold. Regular weekly return of their behaviour cards is a vital communication aid between teachers and parents. Have a great week.

BOYS PROGRAM -  PIGEON LOFT GRAND OPENING

I am writing to invite you to the grand opening of the pigeon loft.  The boys involved with the Boys Program have spent many hours learning about keeping and racing pigeons and then building the loft.  They have been very fortunate to work with David Woodhead, a dad who has a love and knowledge of pigeons who has voluntarily worked with the boys every week.  Under his guidance we will be racing next year.

We were kindly donated the loft.  David and a mate, Paul, who has also helped with the building pulled the loft down and have rebuilt it at school.  The boys have helped build, used tools and are currently finishing the painting.

The P & C also aided tho project financially and will assist us with future costs for feed and medicine for the pigeons.

We will be racing the pigeons next year and will need help to care for and maintain the loft.  If you would like your son to be a part of this, please let me know.  Jobs include feeding, watering cleaning the loft, letting the pigeons out and maintaining the loft.  These jobs will take place before school and at lunch and recess time.

I hope you are able to attend the opening as I know the boys are very proud of their achievements and would love to share this with you.

There will be a morning tea in the staffroom following proceedings.

LIBRARY

Well done to all of the children who have borrowed continuously from the library this year.

This will be the last week that children can borrow as we prepare for stocktake. Library books are returned daily by the library prefects and myself and sometimes go through the system without being scanned properly. Therefore, if your child brings home a reminder notice at the end of the week and they have already returned their books, please just let me know and I will look for the missing items.

I am seeing some fantastic assignments from the Year 6 students come in. They are putting in a lot of effort into their assignments on ‘Banjo Patterson’. Well done!

A huge thank you must go to Deb Hardy who continuously comes into the library to cover books. Also thank you to Mr Woodhead and Mrs Finegan for their generous donations of books and last but definitely not least, thank you to Mrs Keable who has donated some beautiful sparkly floor cushions for the children to use in the library. The children love them!   Have a lovely week   Michelle Shaw
